Auburn fans need to breathe.
After Saturday night’s loss to Clemson, Auburn fans are upset, and understandably so, but please just stop, take a minute and breathe.
You need to take a breath because your team didn’t just lose to anybody. You played the defending national champions. Although your team’s offense didn’t play well, they played Clemson, a team ranked no. 3 in the nation, tic for tack for the majority of the night.
At the moment, I hear a lot of fans putting blame on the coaches and putting blame on the quarterback. Can I tell you something? You need to give credit to Clemson’s defense. They have one of the most talented defenses in the country. Shocking right? A team outside the SEC has a great defense?
If you’d all rather play the blame game, try blaming the offensive line for a few of the 11 sacks on the Auburn Tigers’ quarterback.
“But those plays that the ‘Gus Bus’ was calling weren’t working. It’s his fault.”
I’ll be honest, I know quite a bit about the game of football but I’m no coach. Gus knows his team better than anyone so if I were you, I would leave the play calling to him instead of saying he should’ve done this or that.
There’s not a play in the playbook that will work, or a quarterback that will play well, without an offensive line that can block. But again, you still need to give credit to Clemson’s defensive line. They have two of the best defensive tackles in the country making it hard to do anything.
So take a breath, Auburn fans. The season is just getting under way. While the chances are slim when Georgia and Alabama are still on the schedule, the fact remains that there’s still a chance. There’s still time to pull the “Gus Bus” out of the ditch and back onto the road to compete for a championship.
Take a breath … just don’t hold it.
