Community comes together to rally for healthcare

You can hear chanting for at least a block; people, protesting the Trump Administration's latest attempt to pass a healthcare bill.

"I'm so worried about my healthcare. I have preexisting conditions and if this go through it won't be covered," says Caren Burgress.

She's has bad migraines and is out at the local group Indivisible's rally, to fight for her healthcare.

"I have to be on preventive care, and things to abort if I get one, if I don't I end up in the hospital," says Burgress.

It's a trip that she won't be able to pay for if the new amended bill, by South Carolina senator Lindsey Graham, and Louisiana senator Bill Cassidy passes.

"It's modifying the bill to pay off the states that have been objecting to it. It's not going to help the people at all," says Teresa Safay, who's on the board at Indivisible.

The amended bill says states like Alaska could get a 25 percent increase in medicaid funding, if it's leaders vote yes.

"It's about our day to day living, and basic human right to take care of our self and our children," says Safay. "It's about preexisting conditions, and making sure that we all, not just the wealthy, have access to our needs to be cared for."

Mary McDermott is fighting for her preexisting condition, asthma, and has to have her inhalers on her 24/7.

"If I don't, I can't breathe and I can die not being able to breathe, and it comes on quickly you never know when," says McDermott.

It's a scary thought for McDermott and all the others at the rally; that they could possibly no longer afford healthcare.

"We need people in this country to have healthcare, you say, 'oh I got a good job,' what if you lose that job and your healthcare with it when you get cancer?" says McDermott. "You can't afford to pay for cancer out of your pocket. "Please think about this think about better healthcare."
