The Kenora Catholic District School Board will have a new face in the board office in September.
Julia Tkachuk, Grade 10 student from St. Thomas Aquinas High School, is the Board's new junior student trustee for the 2019 - 2020 school year. She'll be replacing Dominique Novelli, who graduated this year.
He offered some advice.
"My biggest words of advice would probably be just get involved in the school in as many ways as you can. It helps you to really know what is going on, and you are able to connect with every student in the school, so you are not just reporting on a certain section or certain part of the school – but you are getting a wide range of what is going on," he said.
Tkachuck, who was voted into the position by her peers, talked about the new role.
"I have actually looked up to Dom and Clare for a really long time and I'm really excited to be a part of this and have my own opportunity to have my own voice," she said.
She will be joining Clareynze Ceria at the Boardroom table who will assume the mentor role held by Novelli, and is the furst student trustee to hold the role for a two year term.
