Stephen Lang Reconfirms 'Don't Breathe' Sequel Plans - Bloody Disgusting
It’s been nine months since Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez confirmed plans for a sequel to the sleepy hit of 2016.
It was announced back in November of 2016 that a sequel to Don’t Breathe was on the menu, which was not surprising to hear given the film raked in $150 million at the worldwide box office on a $10 million budget. At the time, Alvarez even said that he was potentially returning to the director’s chair.
As Alvarez and producer Sam Raimi explained in November 2016, the focus of the sequel will be the Blind Man, played by Stephen Lang. “The challenge obviously is we just don’t want to do the same movie again and just have 2 in it,” Alvarez noted. Raimi added, “It’s only the greatest idea for a sequel I’ve ever heard. I’m not kidding.”
Lang is doubling down and reconfirms that plans are still underway, confidently telling Screen Rant:
“Oh yeah, we’re doing a sequel.”
In the first film, Rocky (Jane Levy), Alex and Money are three Detroit thieves who get their kicks by breaking into the houses of wealthy people. Money gets word about a blind veteran (Stephen Lang) who won a major cash settlement following the death of his only child. Figuring he’s an easy target, the trio invades the man’s secluded home in an abandoned neighborhood. Finding themselves trapped inside, the young intruders must fight for their lives after making a shocking discovery about their supposedly helpless victim.
The big twist is that there’s a young woman trapped in the basement, who turns out to be the girl who accidentally killed the blind man’s daughter. Hypothetically, we could see a prequel and learn how this girl ends up in a blind man’s basement (although in my head it’s as simple as she was overcome with guilt and stopped by the man’s house looking for redemption). A sequel was teased in a deleted scene in which the blind man is following Levy at an airport, cane and all. More than anything I’m interested in how they could further this story that seems to have run its course.

Takeda gets FDA fast-track status for Zika vaccine - PMLiVE
Takeda’s efforts to develop an effective vaccine against Zika virus have earned it a fast-track designation from the US FDA.
The fast-track status “highlights the significance of Zika and the need for a safe and effective vaccine to protect vulnerable populations”, says Takeda whose candidate TAK-426 is in phase I testing.
Zika has emerged as a global public health threat over the last decade, with an acceleration in cases over the last five years. Most people who get infected remain symptom-free, although some develop a creeping paralysis called Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) that eventually wears off. The consequences of unborn exposure are dramatic, including congenital Zika syndrome (CZS) characterised by microcephaly and other congenital brain abnormalities.
An outbreak of the virus in Brazil in 2015-16 resulted in almost 2,000 infants born with microcephaly, while the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says there were more than 50 births with congenital abnormalities linked to Zika.
Brazil declared the latest epidemic over last May, after a sharp reduction in microcephaly cases that could suggest that high levels of GBS - originally thought to be attributed to Zika - were in fact caused by the chikungunya virus which is not known to cause congenital malformations.
Nevertheless, the risk of another outbreak is ever-present and efforts to develop an effective vaccine have run into obstacles, putting the target of having an effective product available by 2020 in jeopardy.
Takeda is thought to be furthest ahead in development with TAK-426 - a purified, inactivated, alum-adjuvanted, whole Zika virus vaccine candidate - after Sanofi Pasteur dropped its development programme for another whole, inactivated vaccine last year in the wake of a decision by the US federal funding body BARDA to reduce financial assistance.
BARDA opted to put its financial aid behind a single candidate and selected TAK-426 as the most likely to make it through to market.
Laurence De Moerlooze, Takeda’s global Zika programme lead, said: “As soon as Takeda received funding from BARDA, we mobilised a team and prioritised development of this vaccine candidate, initiating a phase I trial within 15 months of contract signature.
“With fast track designation, the ongoing support of BARDA, and the abilities of our organisation, we are confident that we will continue to make expedient progress."
Takeda isn’t the only company with an active programme in this area, however. Last year Inovio Pharma and GeneOne Life Sciences reported phase I data with their synthetic GLS-5700 DNA vaccine in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), concluding that it was safe and generated virus neutralising antibodies in about half of all samples tested.
Meanwhile, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in the US reported positive phase I results for a pair of DNA vaccine candidates in The Lancet last month, and is now preparing for phase II testing.

Vaksin Zika Buatan Takeda Dapat Status 'Fast Track' dari FDA - VOA Indonesia
Badan Administrasi Obat dan Makanan Amerika Serikat (FDA) memberikan status ‘fast track’ untuk vaksin virus Zika buatan Takeda Pharmaceutical, Takeda mengatakan Senin (29/1), seperti dilaporkan Reuters. Virus Zika yang menyebar lewat nyamuk muncul menjadi bahaya public utama di Brazil tiga tahun lalu.
Vaksin TAK-426 saat ini sedang diuji coba kepada 240 pasien yang berusia antara 18 dan 49 tahun dan dalam tahap awal pengembangan.
Mekanisme ‘fast track’ dari FDA bertujuan untuk memfasilitasi pengembangan dan mempercepat proses peninjauan beberapa obat dan vaksin untuk kondisi-kondisi serius yang belum dipenuhi kebutuhan medis.
Virus Zika kemungkinan menyebabkan meningkatnya cacat lahir di Amerika Serikat dan wilayah-wilayah AS lainnya, kata Pusat Pengendalian dan Pencegahan Penyakit Amerika, dalam laporannya pekan lalu.

Lab-engineered mosquitoes will fight the Zika virus - New York Post
MIAMI — Thousands of bacteria-infected mosquitoes will be flying near Miami to test a new way to suppress insect populations that carry Zika and other viruses.
According to a statement from the Kentucky-based company MosquitoMate, the first mosquitoes will be released in the city of South Miami. The test is in collaboration with the Miami-Dade County Mosquito Control and Habitat Management Division.
MosquitoMate infects male Aedes aegypti mosquitoes with the naturally occurring Wolbachia bacteria. Any offspring produced when the lab-bred mosquitoes mate with wild female mosquitoes won’t survive to adulthood.
Male mosquitoes don’t bite, and Wolbachia isn’t harmful to humans.
A similar trial began near Key West last spring. Hurricane Irma’s landfall in the Florida Keys interrupted the final weeks of monitoring for that trial. The results are still pending.

TEMPO.CO, Washington - Tidak ada pengamat langit yang akan pernah melewatkan gerhana bulan total. Tontonan bulan yang tergelincir ke dalam bayangan bumi dan mengubah warna merah bulan seringkali lebih mencolok dan menarik daripada yang dipikirkan orang.

Terlebih lagi, ketika bulan memasuki dan kemudian muncul dari bayangan bumi, fenomena sekunder dapat diabaikan, namun fitur tambahan dari gerhana ini layak untuk dilihat.
Gerhana bulan total terjadi saat bulan benar-benar tenggelam dalam bayangan gelap Bumi, yang disebut umbra. Jika bulan hanya sebagian tertutup oleh umbra, atau hanya memasuki bayangan luar (disebut penumbra), itu dianggap sebagai gerhana bulan parsial. Mulailah mencari bayangan cahaya yang sangat halus yang muncul di bagian kiri bulan. Ini akan menjadi semakin jelas saat menit berlalu, dengan bayangan semakin menyebar dan mendalam. Tepat sebelum bulan mulai memasuki bayangan umbral yang gelap, penumbra tampak sebagai noda yang jelas di bagian kiri bulan.
3. Bulan memasuki umbra bumi: Bulan sekarang mulai melintas ke bayangan tengah Bumi yang gelap, yang disebut umbra. Seekor kerang hitam kecil mulai muncul di bagian kiri (timur) bulan, atau tepinya tampak jelas. Fase parsial gerhana dimulai; kecepatannya semakin cepat dan perubahannya dramatis. Umbra jauh lebih gelap dari pada penumbra. Saat menit berlalu, bayangan gelap itu tampak melengkung perlahan di wajah bulan. Karena bulan bergerak ke selatan dari pusat umbra bumi, gradasi warna dan kecerahan di cakram bulan sedemikian rupa sehingga bagian atasnya tampak paling gelap, dengan warna tembaga atau cokelat. Sementara bagian bawahnya - bagian bulan yang paling dekat dengan tepi luar umbra - akan tampak paling terang, dengan warna merah, oranye dan bahkan mungkin berwarna putih kebiruan.
Pengamat yang jauh dari lampu kota yang terang akan melihat jumlah bintang yang jauh lebih banyak daripada yang terlihat sebelum gerhana dimulai. Bulan akan berada dalam rasi bintang Cancer. 8. Gerhana total berakhir: Munculnya bulan dari bayangan umbral dimulai. Segmen kecil pertama bulan mulai muncul kembali, diikuti beberapa menit kemudian oleh Efek Lentera Jepang.

Kisah Pilu Nikita yang Meninggal Tepat di Hari Pertunangan - Detikcom (Siaran Pers)
Sabtu (27/1) lalu memang seharusnya menjadi hari bahagia sepasang kekasih dan keluarga besarnya. Mereka berencana bertunangan. Namun ternyata hari itu berubah menjadi hari berkabung karena Nikita meninggal dunia. Nikita menderita sakit asam lambung.
"Kami sudah menjalin hubungan selama 10 bulan berjalan. Kami nekat memajangkan cincin sesuai perjanjian karena memang akan melaksanakan pertunangannya hari Sabtu, 27 Januari lalu. Andre juga janji ke Nikita akan menikahinya bulan Maret nanti," kata Andre Manoppo kepada detikcom di rumahnya di Teling Tingkulu, Kota Manado, Senin (29/1).
Sehari sebelum meninggal, kondisi Nikita mulai membaik. Ia juga sempat berpesan kepada teman-teman untuk mendoakannya dan menitipkan pesan kepada sepupunya untuk merapikan rumah karena akan ada banyak orang yang datang. Siapa sangka itu keesokan harinya adalah hari kematiannya.
Ayah Nikita, Robert Wulur membenarkan Sabtu (27/1) merupakan hari pertunangan anaknya. Namun, apa yang direncanakan manusia tak sesuai dengan yang digariskan Tuhan.
"Antara Andre dan Nikita itu sudah ada kesepakatan bersama tanggal 27 hari pertunangannya, tapi Tuhan berkehendak lain," kata ayah Nikita, Robert Wulur kepada detikcom, Senin (29/1/2018).
Dengan berurai air mata, akhirnya tukar cincin itu tetap dilakukan. Cincin pertunangan yang dibeli Andre untuk Nikita pun harus diberikan, meski Nikita sudah terbaring di peraduan terakhir di peti mati.
"Tukar cincin kalau orang Manado bilang. Tapi Tuhan sudah panggil. Semua yang sudah dibelikan itu harus diberikan," ujar Robert.
Prosesi pemberian cincin itu direkam dan diunggah oleh kerabat dan sanak saudara Nikita. Kisah haru itu pun menjadi ramai di media sosial.
Namun, tukar cincin itu hanya ungkapan kemanusiaan. Tak menandakan sebuah ikatan baru.
"Kan nggak ada pendeta yang akan memberkati pernikahan apalagi dengan mayat. Di agama apa pun itu tidak ada," ujar Robert.
Robert pun menegaskan proses itu hanya bagian dari adat. Tak ada prosesi pernikahan, hanya penyematan cincin dari Andre untuk Nikita.
"Menurut saya hal yang wajar Andre menepati janji. Memang apa yang sudah disediakan sudah dibeli yang harus dikasihkan, karena memang tanggal 27 itu hari pertunangannya. Jadi tidak ada proses pernikahan, itu tukar cincin pertunangannya Andre dan Nikita," pungkas Robert.

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- What caused the Zika virus, which had lain low since its discovery in the forests of Uganda in the 1940s, to trigger such severe outbreaks in recent times?
A group of researchers say a gene mutation detected after 2012 could have enhanced the virus' power to overcome immunity in the Aedes mosquito, its main carrier, and increase its power to infect.
The Asian lineage of the virus, responsible for the recent epidemics, underwent mutation, increasing its potency to infect, according to the research published in Nature Communications journal Monday.
The research found the evolutionary mutation can increase the ability of Zika to overcome the host mosquito's immune response, reproduce more efficiently and cause greater infection and epidemics, Shi Peiyong, a virologist at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and leader of the research team, said.
Zika, spread mostly by the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito, can be passed on by a pregnant woman to her fetus.

Besok, fenomena jagadraya berupa gerhana rembulan total akan menghiasi atmosfir langit Indonesia. Berbagai mitos (positif maupun negatif), biasanya akan beredar di tengah masyarakat. Tak terkecuali mitos yang dikait-kaitkan dengan politik. Terutama di medsos (media sosial), akan ramai dengan posting-an peramalan. Tetapi agama (Islam) mengajarkan, bahwa gerhana rembulan (maupun matahari), merupakan tanda kesetiaan. Seluruh planet tunduk pada sunnatullah (perintah Ilahi).
Beberapa masjid besar telah menyiapkan peralatan (teropong) untuk melihat gerhana rembulan. Karena akan disusul dengan shalat gerhana. Fenomena gerhana rembulan (total) akan berproses pada Rabu malam, 31 Januari (2018) lepas shalat Isya’.Gerhana ini, jika tidak tertutup mendung, bisa dilihat dengan mata telanjang. Pada zaman pra-millenium, gerhana biasa dikaitkan dengan peristiwa besar. Termasuk wafat-nya tokoh besar.
Berbagai bangsa, di Amerika, China, Jepang, Perancis sampai Afrika, memiliki mitos tentang gerhana. Termasuk Columbus (penjelajah dunia) pernah memanfaatkan gerhana bulan dengan mitos kemarahan dewa di Afrika. Di Jawa, lebih lagi. Umumnya, dihubung-hubungkan dengan situasi buruk.Mitosnya (Jawa), gerhana, merupakan penampakan Betara-kala(lambang tokoh berperilaku buruk) menelan rembulan.
Di China, gerhana disebut “chih,” yang berarti makan. Karena di-mitos-kan, seekor naga langit sedang melahap rembulan. Di Jepang, saat gerhana, merupakan penebaran racun dari langit, menyebabkan berbagai penyakit. Maka masyarakat menutup sumur agar tidak dicemari racun yang disebar ke bumi saat gerhana. Begitu pula bangsa Arab (kuna), memahami gerhana sebagai pertanda situasi buruk.
Tetapi mitos tentang gerhana (matahari maupun rembulan), diluruskan pada sekitar dekade tahun 630-an Masehi. Saat itu 27 Januari tahun 632 M, warga Madinah (Arab) dilintasi gerhana matahari cincin (sebagian). Benar, terjadi raut sedih pada wajah nabi Muhammad SAW. Ternyata raut sedih, disebabkan wafatnya putra beliau (Ibrahim r.a.). Peristiwa wafatnya putra Nabi SAW, dikaitkan dengan pertanda gerhana.
Seperti pada peristiwa gerhana (rembulan) sebelumnya, 20 November tahun 625 Masehi, Nabi SAW mengajak melaksanakan shalat gerhana. Pada hadits (shahih) dinyatakan, bahwa kedua planet, matahari dan rembulan, merupakan tanda kekuasaan-Nya. Dan kedua gerhana (matahari dan bulan) bukan pertanda kematian maupun kelahiran. Usai shalat gerhana, Nabi SAW ber-khutbah). Isinya memerintahkan untuk berdoa, ber-takbir serta ber-sedekah.
Pada dekade itu peradaban astronomi mengalami revolusi pemahaman. Diantaranya, pernyataan tentang bentuk bumi yang bulat (bagai kelereng). Ingat dulu, Galelia Galileo, dihukum mati oleh rezim gereja karena menyatakan bentuk bumi yang bulat. Jason Cummings admitted his celebrations of his first goal for Rangers almost backfired after he was left breathless under a dramatic pile-up of dozens of supporters in Dingwall.
The on-loan Nottingham Forest striker came off the bench to score what proved to be the clincher for Rangers in the 2-1 win against Ross County which lifted them back above Aberdeen into second place in the Scottish Premiership.
Cummings raced towards the travelling fans, who had chanted his name throughout the afternoon, and found himself submerged under a cascade of them who spilled on to the edge of the pitch.
“I thought I’d died,” laughed the 22-year-old former Hibernian player. “Honestly, I didn’t think I was going to get up. I was praying for the coppers and stewards to come and get them off me!
“I did a knee slide and the momentum of the wet pitch took me into the fans, so I was kind of stuck. It was good fun for the first ten seconds but then I couldn’t breathe.
“I don’t know how many were on top of me. I just remember seeing a big pair of denim jeans in my face. But I wouldn’t change it for the world. It was fantastic and I’m buzzing. The fans were different class and I was saying to the boys that if I got on I would have to score and go sliding into the fans. I got my chance and I took it.
“I got a great reception when I made my debut against Aberdeen at Ibrox last Wednesday and they were singing my name today every time I went out to warm up in front of them. They’ve been different class with me since I came, so that goal was for them.”
Rangers manager Graeme Murty savoured Cummings’ contribution and has no doubts he has secured the services of a player ideally suited to the demands of playing for the Ibrox club.
“Jason has got that about him. You don’t get the impression this club is too big for him,” said Murty, pictured. “You get the impression he is relishing and loving life at the moment which is good for us. I told him before he went on to go and get me a goal because we had just started to come under a bit of pressure in the game. He had a little bit of a moan at Daniel Candeias for not laying the ball off to him and then he goes and finishes like that.
“You know what you’re going to get from him, and from Alfredo Morelos as well. We have finishers at the club, we have options, and I think you saw bits from us today that were very, very good.”
Rangers chairman Dave King was in Dingwall yesterday and Murty, placed in charge until the end of the season, revealed he will have a private dinner with the South Africa-based businessman tonight as they map out the club’s aspirations.
“He’s going to tell me his vision for the club, how he sees us going forward,” said Murty. “I’m interested to see it. I know where we want to go. I’m interested to see if we have a timescale, interested to see what – if any – business dealings will be done.
“I’m probably even interested in what kit we’re going to be wearing next year. The same things all the fans are interested in. It will be a good opportunity for us, away from the hurly-burly of the game, to actually sit down and really get to know each other.
“I’m a part of it until the end of the season. I’m sure if I do a really, really good job of it, we’ll have another discussion. Until then, I’m really relaxed. I’m thrilled to have the prospect of managing this group of players. If I can be a part of it going forward, I would love to. This club is on the right path to where we want it to be. I want to be a part of that.”
Ross County manager Owen Coyle was encouraged by his team’s second-half display despite another loss which leaves his side six points adrift at the bottom of the table.
“We know when we get all our players fit that we will win games,” said Coyle. “Rangers were better than us in the first half today but we were better than them in the second half and deserved something from the game.
“Momentum changes quickly and when it does, we will be the team in the ascendancy.”

German Automakers Reportedly Forced Humans To Breathe Toxic Diesel Fumes In Tests, Too - Jalopnik

1st Gear: It Wasn’t Just The Monkeys
After reports came out that German companies Volkswagen, Daimler, BMW and Bosch were involved in a study testing their diesel-emissions fumes by exposing monkeys to them with a VW Beetle reportedly rigged to cheat emissions tests, VW apologized “for the misconduct and the lack of judgment of individuals” in choosing the study methods.
Reports came out soon after that VW, Daimler and BMW did the same kinds of tests with humans, according to Bloomberg via Automotive News. The cars, once marketed as “clean” diesels, cheated emissions tests and actually spit out far higher than acceptable emissions. The fumes can cause respiratory illness and cancer, according to Automotive News.
But if it makes the people in the study feel any better, we all had to breathe the fumes once the cars successfully cheated their emissions tests. That’s one way to get the biggest study sample possible: expose the whole world and hope you don’t get caught.
The study tested 25 people at a clinic used by Germany’s University of Aachen, according to the Stuttgarter Zeitung daily newspaper. From Automotive News:
The report, citing annual reports from the European Research Group on Environment and Health in the Transport Sector, or EUGT, which closed last year, followed a report from the The New York Times earlier that said the organization also conducted tests using monkeys.
Germany’s auto industry, which is still reeling from Volkswagen Group’s diesel-cheating scandal where the company rigged emissions tests, distanced itself from the organization.
“We are appalled by the extent of the studies and their implementation,” Daimler said Monday in an emailed statement, adding it didn’t have any influence over the study and promised an investigation. “We condemn the experiments in the strongest terms.”
The reports didn’t say whether those participating in the study were briefed on what it would involve, which sometimes doesn’t happen with psychological studies because it could mess up the experiment. According to Automotive News, the University of Aachen did not have immediate comment about the story.
2nd Gear: California Governor Wants A Lot Of Zero-Emissions Cars
California Gov. Jerry Brown wants a lot of zero-emissions cars on the road by 2030, and he’s willing to pay for it: According to the Associated Press, he went through a $2.5-billion plan Friday to help people in California buy electric cars and increase the amount of charging stations in the state.
The goal with all of that is to get 5 million zero-emissions cars on the road by 2030. From the Detroit Free Press:
The number of zero-emission cars is a significant expansion of Brown’s goal of selling 1.5 million such vehicles by 2025. It’s a nearly 15-fold increase over the 350,000 zero-emission vehicles already on California’s roads. The $2.5 billion in spending still needs legislative approval.
Reaching the goal will require that 40 percent of vehicles sold in 2030 be clean, said Mary Nichols, chairwoman of the California Air Resources Board, up from about 5 percent now. ...
Brown’s plan would extend subsidies to help people buy emission-free vehicles. It seeks to have 250,000 electric-vehicle charging stations and 200 hydrogen fueling stations, an increase from about 14,000 charging stations and 31 hydrogen stations.
California offers subsidies of up to $7,000 for the purchase or lease of a new electric, fuel-cell or plug-in hybrid vehicle, though most subsidies are smaller.
Brown’s proposal would give $200 million in subsidies each year for the next eight years. But with all of the expensive big trucks, gas guzzlers and less efficient vehicles starring in the Detroit Auto Show this year, it’s probably going to be more about changing people’s mindsets than changing the price tag on a car.
3rd Gear: NAFTA Talks Are Going Well
U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to dismantle the North American Free Trade Agreement for quite awhile now, which, for the auto industry, would likely mean higher production costs, loss of jobs, fewer choices for customers, lower investor returns and a less competitive automotive and supplier market.
But for now, it sounds like NAFTA talks are going decently. From Bloomberg:
The sixth round of negotiations ends Monday after a week marked by cautious optimism, with negotiators concluding their first chapter since October and broad discussion about the biggest sticking points. President Donald Trump himself has toned down his rhetoric over the North American Free Trade Agreement, and he isn’t expected to use his State of the Union speech on Tuesday to give a notice of withdrawal as some had privately feared.
Now it’s up to Robert Lighthizer, the president’s trade chief, to signal whether the U.S. truly likes what it has seen, as Trump’s threats to kill the pact continue to loom large. With risks of an immediate collapse appearing to have diminished, the next round of talks is scheduled for February in Mexico City.
The talks aren’t anywhere near over, though, despite Bloomberg reporting that Trump once wanted them to be done in December. That was extended through March, and Bloomberg reports that it looks like talks could go into 2019. Here’s the current state of automotive talks, from Bloomberg:
On autos, the Canadians have suggested rewriting how the value of a car is calculated to demonstrate a higher share of local content. The U.S. has called for increasing the regional content in autos and adding a U.S.-specific one.
No matter what the countries are calling for, it doesn’t look like we’ll have an answer anytime soon.
4th Gear: More Than 800,000 People Went To Look At Cars In Detroit
“The teens don’t care about the cars anymore.” “Nobody cares about cars, except for how soon the cars can drive them somewhere.” “Cars are just a way to get from one place to another.”
Well, more than 800,000 ticketed people showed up at the Detroit Auto Show this year, presumably because they like cars and wanted to see a few. It wasn’t an attendance record, but it was still a decent showing—especially for frigid Detroit in the middle of January. From the Detroit Free Press:
The show wrapped up Sunday with 100,605 attendees, bringing total ticketed attendance for 2018 NAIAS to 809,161. That was slightly above last year’s figure of 806,554, but below some past years that climbed above 820,000, said Rod Alberts, executive director of the North American International Auto Show for more than 20 years.
David Sowerby, managing director for the investment advisory firm Ancora, estimated the 2018 show had an economic impact of $480 million to the regional economy.
Too bad those 809,161 people didn’t get to see a new Supra, or whatever Toyota wants to call it, huh?
5th Gear: The Ford Family Is Looking For An Old Punch Bowl, If You Have It
The formation Ford Motor Company, incorporated in 1903, happened in the company of an old punch bowl. According to Automotive News, the formation “hinged” on this thing, “a turn-of-the-century punch bowl etched in a classic strawberry, diamond and fan pattern.”
It’s so important to the family because Henry Ford won it in a 10-lap race in October 1901, according to Automotive News, and it put things into place for the Ford company to be founded. The family lost the punch bowl in 1951, but is hoping for good luck after the Bullitt Mustang, thought to be lost, was found.

More birth defects in Texas, other states where Zika spread - Houston Chronicle
Birth defects strongly linked to the Zika virus during pregnancy increased in Puerto Rico, southern Florida and one southern Texas county where mosquitoes infected women in 2016, according to a new report.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Thursday a 21 percent increase in neurological defects such as abnormally small heads, or microcephaly, during the second half of 2016 in a grouping of those three areas. It included Texas' Cameron County in the grouping despite the fact local spread of Zika was not detected there until late 2016.
"That suggests Zika might have been introduced into Texas, as well as Florida and Puerto Rico, earlier than thought," said Dr. Peter Hotez, founding dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital. "It also suggests we're likely in store for an even more dramatic rise in 2017."
But Hotez, a renowned Zika expert, acknowledged that the increase in the CDC report might mostly reflect the 2016 epidemic in Puerto Rico, where about 36,000 cases of locally transmitted cases were reported. There were 218 such cases reported in south Florida in summer and fall 2016 and six in Cameron County in November 2016. None of the reported cases in Texas involved pregnant women.
The CDC did not break down the number or rate of birth defects by area.
Doubling back urged
Hotez said it would be good if Texas public health officials doubled back to test the mothers of such babies for the virus, given Zika antibodies should still be present if the women were infected at the time. But a Texas Department of State Health Services spokesman said there are no such plans.
The spokesman said that in 2016, there were 1,708 birth defects in Texas consistent with Zika infection, only 10 of which were among mothers with evidence of Zika infection while pregnant. Because of privacy concerns, he said, the department doesn't provide breakdowns of the cases by region or county.
CDC researchers said they do not know if the increase is due to the local spread of Zika or other factors because of a lack of laboratory evidence of infection in mothers who delivered babies with defects associated with the virus - either because they were never tested, weren't tested at the right time or weren't exposed to the virus.
Zika is not considered fatal, but it has been linked to thousands of babies born with microcephaly. It also can result in seizures, developmental delays with speech or motor function, intellectual disability, feeding problems, and hearing and vision problems.

Honein said CDC officials anticipate another increase when 2017 data is analyzed because many pregnant women exposed to Zika in late 2016 gave birth in 2017.
Zika emerged as a global threat in 2007, then started spreading extensively in 2015 and 2016, reaching at least 58 countries and territories, most in the southern hemisphere. Local transmission was reported in the U.S. in the second half of 2016, first in Florida, then in Texas.
There were two Zika-related birth defects in Harris County in 2016, both involving women who had contracted the disease while traveling outside the U.S. But the CDC report didn't find a statistically significant increase in defects in such travel-related cases.
'More extensive'
CDC researchers, who analyzed nearly 1 million births from 2016 in 15 states and territories, compared the numbers of defects in three categories -- areas where there was little Zika infection reported; those where there was a significant number of travel-related cases; and those where there was local transmission of the virus. The last was the only category to show a statistically significant increase.
In the 15 state or territories, the researchers found about three of every 1,000 babies had a birth defect possibly associated with the Zika virus. Of those, about half were born with microcephaly or other brain abnormalities; 20 percent had neural tube defects and other early brain abnormalities; 10 percent had eye abnormalities; and 22 percent had nervous system damage, such as joint problems and deafness.
Hotez said the report vindicated the alarm he sounded in 2016, when he advocated vocally for federal funding. He said then that "transmission might have been more extensive than we know" and that "it could take years before pediatric neurologists fully comprehend the long-term neurological effects of Zika."
In all, there were 315 reported Zika cases in Texas in 2016, all travel-related except for the six in Cameron County. There were 48 cases in 2017, including 11 in Harris County. Only two of the 48, in Cameron and Hidalgo counties, were locally transmitted.

THERE’S A RIGHT way and a wrong way to live. Feeling inspired and energised as you execute productive actions that lead to both the achievement of your goals and a sense of fulfillment is the right way to live.
Feeling constantly rushed and weighed down by other people’s demands and expectations is the wrong way.
No one ever sat on their deathbed wishing they had been busier. No one ever came to the end of their days begging for more time to do things that didn’t matter. The only way to live a happy and successful life is to stop being busy and start being selective.
Selectivity is the gateway to productivity—and productive people live long, healthy, and fulfilling lives. Busy people who passively fill up their lives with distractions, on the other hand, live short, stressful, and exhausting lives.
Busy people have mental breakdowns, become emotionally burnt-out, and are routinely manipulated by others. The reason busy people suffer so much is that busyness is a gateway to mediocrity, reduced expectations, and reduced willpower.
Busyness leads to giving up on your dreams, following others, and wasting your valuable mental energy levels. The only way to avoid the busy person’s fate is to understand where busyness leads. Once you know the pitfalls busy people face, you can adjust your life to avoid falling into them yourself.
Busy people become average
People who brag about being busy will always be average. They will never accomplish anything great or leave a legacy behind them. These people brag about busyness because nothing else in their lives is worth discussing. Being busy does not lead to achievement or fulfillment.
Just the opposite: Busyness prevents the very things it tries to signal.
If you’re so busy that you don’t have time to breathe, you may be wasting your life; you’re certainly wasting your time. You will never get anywhere in life without taking some time for yourself to sit down, look ahead, and see where you’re going.
Busy people don’t make things happen
Things just happen to busy people. Life just happens to them. You want to flip that around: to be proactive instead of reactive, to do instead of be done upon. Effectiveness should be your goal, not busyness.
The problem is being busy feels good. The human brain loves feeling busy. You get a dopamine rush every time you cross off an item from your to-do list. It doesn’t matter if the item you’re crossing off is important or not, you still get a rush. On top of this, telling others that you’re busy is an ego boost. Being busy makes you feel important.
Busyness is a drug. And the only way to get off it is to start obsessing with results.
What’s the result of what you’re doing? What’s the outcome? Is there any value in spending the next eight hours on some side project your co-worker wants you to do, or four hours at some event that your family or friends want you to attend?
Will either of these things bring you closer to your goals? If the answer is no, say no.
Why busy people are easily manipulated
Distracted people get taken advantage of, and busy people are distracted.
When you are busy, it’s easy for other people to make you feel like you only have one choice: theirs. When you’re busy, it’s easy for other people to make you feel like you need them to be successful.
When you’re busy, it’s easy for other people to make you feel like it’s your duty to take care of them. Distraction turns people into pushovers. When grown men and grown women try to make you feel guilty for not spending time with them or not doing what they want, it’s simply a power play.
These people know that you have a thousand other things going on and would rather give in to them than feel guilty. They use your busyness against you by making silent threats to play the victim or suck you into drama. As a result, you say yes to everything. You have to say yes. If you don’t, you’ll have to deal with emotional blackmail.
Staying busy is an easy trap to fall into no matter who you are
If you want to be average, run around all day in a false sense of busyness. Stay passive and unfocused, only half concentrating on whatever you’re doing at the time. Worry constantly. Plan for the worst. Try to fit in, let others boss you around, and say yes to everything. Most importantly, never be selective with your attention.
But, if you want to be productive, if you want to achieve worthwhile goals while feeling a sense of fulfillment, it’s time to get focused. You need to start being self-aware enough to reject busy, meaningless activities and, instead, to focus on the one or two things that really matter to you each day.

When I was pregnant with their little brother, my boys would daily assault me with an endless stream of questions. Some were cuter: "How does he eat in there?" While others had me rolling my eyes: "Does he poop inside of you?" But all were actually pretty valid and I more or less felt capable of answering them accurately. Until one day when my 7-year-old asked if the baby could breathe inside my tummy. Cue the sudden realization that I, the legit grownup, actually had no idea. How do babies get oxygen in the womb? Mommy doesn't know, kids. Luckily, there are some experts who do.
Babies don't exactly breathe oxygen in the womb, at least not in the sense that we understand breath, but they do receive oxygen from the mother. Rebecca Lee, a Registered Nurse in NYC and founder of RemediesforMe.com, explains that when the mother breathes, oxygen is passed from the placenta to the umbilical cord and on to the baby via the bloodstream.
If your baby isn't actually breathing, why does it look so much like he is when you have an ultrasound? Certified Nurse Midwife Katie Page tells Romper, "In the womb, we can see 'breathing' of babies by increase and decrease in the spaces between the ribs." Page says that rather than the lungs actually filling with air, this practice breathing is the chest wall expanding and contracting and the muscles working. Babies don't breathe in the womb, but they sure are committed to practicing.
GiphySo when does all this practice begin? You'd think it would be towards the end of the third trimester, right? Believe it or not, practice breaths starts as early as nine weeks gestation when, according to Lee, the baby begins to mimic breathing-like movements. Only a week or two later, before the first trimester has ended, she begins to inhale small amounts of amniotic fluid that mimic swallowing. These skills help her little lungs develop properly (and amaze her very excited mom and dad when they find out).
As the weeks of gestation go on, a baby's practice becomes all the more intricate. By 32 weeks she will be making more advanced breathing movements involving compressions and lung expansion, Lee explains, and by 36 weeks her lungs are considered fully mature and ready for life outside the womb (although health professionals all agree that it's safest to let her reach 39 weeks).
GiphyPage, who is clearly passionate about her midwifery practice, describes a fetus preparing to take her first breath as a fascinating process. "Physiology is so neat," she exclaims. "When a baby is born they are stimulated to breathe via pressure on the chest wall through the birth canal and the sudden release of pressure when they come earth side." Page adds that the change in temperature and surrounding environment, in conjunction with the stimulation of being touched for the first time, triggers the instinct to take her first breath and fill her lungs with air.
I wish I had known about the ins and outs of fetal "breathing" while still pregnant with my little guy a few months ago. Not only could I have patted myself on the back for knowing the answer to yet another one of my minions' questions, but I could have taken credit for another miraculous part of growing a human being: Supplying him oxygen. Like a boss.
As a parent there is nothing quite like witnessing your child take the very first breath of his life. Somehow it's made even a little sweeter knowing that he was practicing for it all along.

Serangkaian Gempa di Waktu Berdekatan, Cincin Api Telah Aktif? - Detikcom (Siaran Pers)
United Nations Secretariat for International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR)-lah yang menyebut Ring of Fire telah aktif kembali.
"Cincin Api Pasifik aktif hari ini," tulis badan PBB itu melalui akun Twitter mereka, Selasa (23/1) seperti dikutip detikcom, Rabu (24/1/2018). UNISDR merujuk pada gempa-gempa yang terjadi Selasa kemarin.
UNISDR mencatat beberapa aktivitas yang terjadi di Cincin Api Pasifik antara lain erupsi Gunung Mayon di Filipina, erupsi Gunung Kusatsu Shirane dan menyebabkan longsor di Jepang, gempa di Banten yang terasa juga di Jakarta, hingga gempa 7,9 SR yang sempat menimbulkan peringatan tsunami di Alaska.
Kejadian-kejadian tersebut terjadi pada waktu bersamaan pada Selasa (23/1) kemarin. Ahli geofisika dari USGS William Yeck melalui ABC News menyatakan tidak mungkin kejadian-kejadian tersebut saling terkait. Lebih dari itu, dia juga menegaskan tidak ada aktivitas tak biasa di Ring of Fire.
"Sangat tidak mungkin hal-hal ini terkait," tegas Yeck.
Yeck menjelaskan, di sepanjang Ring of Fire ada 452 gunung berapi atau mencakup lebih dari 80 persen dari gunung berapi yang ada di dunia. Gunung itu disebutkan terus-menerus aktif.
ABC News membeberkan Ring of Fire memiliki panjang 25 ribu mil (sekitar 40.233 km). Ia terbentang mulai Selandia Baru, Indonesia, Filipina, Jepang, kemudian melintasi Kepulauan Aleutian dan menyusuri pesisir Alaska, Kanada, Pantai Barat AS, hingga ujung Amerika Selatan.
Lempeng tektonik sepanjang Ring of Fire terus-menerus bergerak, bertabrakan satu sama lain, dan menyebabkan banyak gempa.

4. Tepat Hari Kartini, Syahnaz Sadiqah akan Dinikahi Jeje 'Govinda'
Syahnaz Sadiqah dan Jeje 'Govinda' akhirnya mengumumkan tanggal pernikahannya. Pasangan itu akan menikah 21 April 2018.
Tanggal tersebut pun bertepatan dengan Hari Kartini. Syahnaz dan Jeje ternyata memang sudah merencanakan hal itu.

"April tanggal 21 (menikah). Iya sengaja (tepatan dengan Hari Kartini)," ujar Jeje di kawasan Kebon Jeruk, Jakarta Barat, Kamis (25/1/2018) malam.
Kebetulan juga, Jeje berulang tahun pada 22 April. Syahnaz sendiri meyakini kekasihnya itu bakal senang mendapatkan kadonya yakni pernikahan.

Nikita Mirzani mengakui sudah mempunyai kekasih baru. Bukan bule, Nikita disebut pacari seorang pengusaha kaya dan anak Menteri era Soeharto.

Nikita memang belum pernah memperlihatkan secara gamblang kekasihnya itu. Beberapa waktu lalu salah satu akun gosip mempertanyakan siapa sosok pria berinisial DL yang disebutnya 'King' dalam foto di Instagram Stories Nikita.
"Anaknya siapapun, kalau dia baik, terima anak-anak Niki, terima Niki dengan baik ya Niki selalu bersyukur," jawab Nikita Mirzani ditemui usai 'Rumpi No Secret' di Gedung Trans TV, Jalan Kapten Tendean, Jakarta Selatan, Jumat (26/1/2018).
Inisial DL itu disebut adalah Dipo Latief. Dipo Latief adalah pengusaha dan juga merupakan anak dari Abdul Latief yang merupakan Menteri Tenaga Kerja ke-17.
