Kebijakan ini tidak berlebihan mengingat sejumlah dokter menilai virus Zika kini sedang berkembang menjadi wabah.
Namun, ada begitu banyak tentang virus Zika yang belum diketahui khalayak awam.
Fakultas Kesehatan Masyarakat Universitas Airlangga bersama Airlangga Health Science Institute (AHSC) lantas mengadakan 1st International Symposium Of Public Health (ISOPH).
Temanya “Emerging and Re-Emerging Disease”, simposium ini sebagai ajang unjuk penelitian.
Ketua panitia, Sri Sumarni mengungkapkan simposium ini diikuti 107 peneliti. Baik dari kalangan mahasiswa ataupun praktisi kesehatan yang melakukan penelitian.
Dari 107 pendaftar, 89 abstraksi diterima, 52 di antaranya dipresentasikan secara oral. Sisanya dipajang dalam bentuk pameran poster.
“Penelitian mereka terkait penemuan virus baru yang menjadi penyakit saat ini. Seperti virus Zika yang ada pada objek yang selama ini ada yaitu nyamuk,” terangnya di sela simposiun di Mercure Hotel, Surabaya, Rabu (30/11/2016)
Selain sebagai ajang publikasi penelitian para pemerhati kesehatan, dalam simposium ini juga dihadirkan sejumlah praktisi kesehatan dari negara yang telah terserang Zika.
Mereka memaparkan tindakan dan regulasi pemerintah terkait penyakit yang dibawa oleh nyamuk Aedes aegypti dan Aedes albopictus. Nyamuk-nyamuk inilah yang juga menyebarkan demam berdarah dan virus chikungunya.
Pimpinan AHSC, Prof Nasronudin mengungkapkan terkait virus zika pemerintah telah menerapkan standar pengamanan di bandara. Karena pembawa virusnya nyamuk dan berakibat pada demam.
Kebanyakan, orang dengan mobilisasi ke negara endemik virus Zika akan diperiksa begitu tiba di bandara apakah mengidap virus zika atau tidak.
“Yang baru pulang dari luar negeri lingkungan endemis, meskipun di bandara belum menemukan infeksi virus, maka akan kami telusuri hingga 2 minggu setelahnya,” jelasnya.
Ia menjelaskan, virus zika tak lebih parah dari penyakit batuk. Infeksinya terjadi jika kondisi imun seseorang sedang tidak baik. Sebab virus zika bersifat self limited, bisa ditangani oleh imune tubuh juga.
“Jadi kalau hamil lebih baik tidak ke luar negeri atau yang penting jangan sampai digigit nyamuk. Negara Indonesia sudah dikepung negara-negara yang sudah diserang zika, tetapi baru ditemukan ada 1 di Jambi. Kalau di Surabaya dan Kalimantan masih Zero,” lanjutnya.

Kasus di Texas melibatkan seorang wanita warga Cameron County, dekat perbatasan Meksiko, yang tidak dalam kondisi hamil, kata Texas Department of State Health Services seperti dilansir Reuters.
Kehamilan merupakan kekhawatiran terbesar dalam kasus Zika, sebab virus dapat menyebabkan kecacatan parah seumur hidup bagi bayi yang dilahirkan, termasuk microcephaly, kondisi di mana seorang bayi dilahirkan dengan ukuran kepala kecil yang menandakan otaknya berhenti berkembang secara normal.
Texas mengatakan saat ini tidak ada kasus lain, selain kasus tersebut, terkait penyebaran Zika. Meskipun demikian, aparat setempat meningkatkan upaya mereka memantau persebaran virus tersebut.
Lembaga pecegahan dan pengendalian penyakit AS, CDC, mengatakan pihaknya berkoordinasi dengan aparat lokal dan negara bagian dalam pemantauan dan pencegahan penyebaran virus tersebut, seperti tindakan pengasapan untuk membunuh nyamuk dewasa dan penebaran larvasida untuk mematikan jentik nyamuk.
Texas adalah satu dari beberapa negara bagian di Amerika Serikat yang menjadi rumah bagi nyamuk Aedes aegypti, pembawa virus Zika.
Dade County di wilayah Miami, negara bagian Florida, sudah berusaha membasmi nyamuk lokal pembawa Zika sejak pertengahan musim panas lalu. Sampai hari ini, di negara bagian itu terdapat 238 kasus Zika yang ditularkan oleh nyamuk lokal.

IGN was among the press outlets who recently attended a lunch interview with Don't Breathe director Fede Alvarez to tout the hit thriller's Blu-ray and DVD release (out today).
Here are the bonus materials included on the Blu-ray, DVD & Digital release of the film, which scared up $152.8 million on a budget of just under $10 million: Deleted scenes with director’s commentary; Commentary with Alvarez, co-writer Rodo Sayagues and actor Stephen Lang; and the following five featurettes: “No Escape” “Creating the Creepy House” “Meet the Cast” “Man in the Dark” and “The Sounds of Horror.”
"There's nothing I hate the most than a bad [home video] release," said Alvarez. "The one where you go, what, really? That's all he has? Some trailers for other movies. No, this one is definitely not that. We made sure it wasn't."
Alvarez praised home video supplemental materials, saying, "That's how I learned to make movies, watching behind the scenes." The director also said that with all the deleted scenes "you can put together an extended cut that is way longer because we killed so much stuff of the original cut, just to make it lean and mean." (The movie runs a mere 88 minutes.)
Given the sheer amount of deleted scenes, it begged the question why those scenes were cut. As Alvarez explained, "There was stuff that worked but for some reason the context it just dragged and those sort of things. Some of them are just not good, but it's always good to see them anyways. But a lot of what they do, there are a couple of those that I'm not proud of but still you learn a lot more about the characters and what they do the things they do and you learn a lot more about the blind man and his backstory. He talks a lot more -- that's one of the things we pulled back on. We thought the more he talked the less scary he was, so we tried to keep that to a minimum. On the deleted scenes, you'll get extended versions of a lot of the cellar talking. You get to know him a bit more and understand his point of view on life. If you like the movie, it's really entertaining to watch those scenes and kind of put together the bigger movie."
Alvarez continued, "There was a complete subplot with Rocky and Alex that -- there's actually one of the best shots in the movie is a kiss that they have in the middle of the movie. It was really one of those things that looked, the greatest Hollywood kiss and that's usually the thing that you kind of have to sacrifice when there's something that you're just forcing into the movie because you like the shot but it makes no sense. So we got rid of that, but the scene is there. It's also the plot where she was a little more manipulative. She was really dragging him back into the house all the time. Then we took that out. You felt it was hard to like her ... I think we took that out, but there's a lot of that."
Alvarez added that the ability to watch the movie at home and pause it allows the viewer to catch a revealing factoid they wouldn't have caught in the theatrical release: "You get the name of the blind guy because now you can pause it. There's a shot where you go in the room of the blind man for the first time, it goes through a bunch of photos. There's a photo of him in his military uniform. If you pause it there, you'll get his full name on his uniform that isn't mentioned in the movie."

There are definitely some mixed emotions on hand at the end of director Fede Alvarez's Don't Breathe, but it is mostly a happy ending. It's true that Stephen Lang's The Blind Man is still left alive, but at least Jane Levy's Rocky does manage to escape and execute her plans to leave her terrible home life. It's a fitting ending that actually does a great job of setting up a sequel -- but it wasn't always going to be that way. In fact, before it was changed in early drafts, the film was originally going to have a horrifically dark ending that saw Rocky chained up in The Blind Man's basement and turned into his new surrogate.
Earlier this month, I had the tremendous pleasure of joining a small group of journalists sitting down with Fede Alvarez, screenwriter Rodo Sayagues and producer Sam Raimi during a special lunch promoting the upcoming Blu-ray and DVD release of Don't Breathe, and it was early in the conversation that we discussed the movie's ending. The screenwriter was asked specifically about the final moments, and Sayagues explained that he and Alvarez originally planned a much, much darker conclusion for the hit horror flick. Said the screenwriter,
The original script, it had a bleaker ending. She ended up in the cellar. In the original script actually there was a trap down in the floor, but we were like, 'Wait a second. We can't do Evil Dead and then a trap door. One in each movie.' We changed it to put a door in the wall. So the trap door she would walk by it and then a hand would come out and grab her leg and drag her in. By the time the police shows up, they never find her because that part of the cellar was more concealed. It's inside of the wall. It's actually under the next door's house - it's a tunnel that connected with the other house that's abandoned next door and that's the cellar he was using.
Pretty horrible, right? Rather than joining her daughter and leaving for California to start a better life, Rocky would instead suffer the same terrible fate of the girl who accidentally killed The Blind Man's daughter -- and presumably not ultimately survive the ordeal. Given how much we saw her go through in Don't Breathe, this would have been a rather devastating place to leave the story... and that's what led Fede Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues to change it.
While the filmmakers didn't mention exactly when it was that they decided to change the ending of Don't Breathe, they did explain why they did. It seems that they grew attached to Rcoky as a character, and simply felt that it wouldn't have been satisfying for the audience to see her trapped in the Blind Man's clutches. Said Sayagues,
Then we changed that. Originally he could hide her better. We felt, even in the original script and even the original cut, the first cut of the movie, she came across... she was more ambitious, she was manipulating. She was manipulating the rest of the characters more to get what she wanted. In the storytelling myth, she kind of deserved to win. It was really depressing. It was one of those, like, 'Oh, fuck, really? After all of this and then she ends up there?' She was pregnant and she was this ladybug... it was depressing.

Menurut Dr. Amesh Adalja, seorang pakar penyakit menular dari University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, penularan Zika oleh nyamuk lokal di Texas sebenarnya sudah diperkirakan.
Penyakit dengue dan chikungunya, yang disebabkan oleh virus kerabat dekat Zika, sudah lebih dulu menyebar di Texas dan negara bagian itu merupakan “rumah yang nyaman” bagi nyamuk Aedes.
Belum ada vaksin atau obat untuk mengatasi Zika, yang menyebabkan demam, ruam kulit serta mata merah. Diperkirakan 80 persen orang yang terinfeksi tidak menunjukkan gejala sehingga sulit untuk mengetahui apakah seseorang terinfeksi virus itu.

A probable case of local transmission of the Zika virus has been reported in Texas, state health officials announced on Monday, making it the second state, after Florida, in which the infection is thought to have been carried from person to person by mosquitoes.
The patient is a woman who is not pregnant and lives in Brownsville, on the Gulf Coast near the Mexican border. The state’s first case of chikungunya, a virus spread by the type of mosquito that carries Zika, was confirmed this year in Brownsville.
Medical investigators must now determine whether the infection is spreading and, if so, how many people may have become infected. Officials have begun asking the woman’s neighbors for urine samples and trapping mosquitoes to test for the virus.
State and county health officials are working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on the case. The state medical operations center has been activated to help with contact tracing, mosquito surveillance and public education.
The C.D.C. sent a training team to Texas this year but has not yet been asked to send an emergency response team, said Dr. Thomas R. Frieden, the agency’s director.
No travel alert suggesting that pregnant women avoid the area will be issued now, Dr. Frieden said, because a single case does not constitute evidence of continuing local transmission. “Most local cases are isolated dead ends,” he said.
Confirmation of several cases within a roughly one-square-mile area for more than about two weeks, despite aggressive mosquito control, would prompt an alert from federal authorities.
In Florida this year, the C.D.C. first advised pregnant women to avoid Wynwood, the neighborhood where the first cases in Miami were discovered, and later suggested they avoid all of Miami-Dade County.
There have now been 4,444 confirmed cases of Zika infection in the continental United States, including 1,114 in pregnant women. Most of those infected had traveled to countries where the virus had been spreading, but 182 of the infections were contracted in Florida by people who had not visited such places.
The Texas patient, who was not identified, told investigators that she had not traveled recently to anywhere the virus had been spreading. She had no other risk factors, such as having sex with someone who had visited an area with Zika transmission.
“We knew it was only a matter of time before we saw a Zika case spread by a mosquito in Texas,” said Dr. John Hellerstedt, the state health commissioner.
Residents of Brownsville, a city of 183,000, are concerned but not fearful, Mayor Tony Martinez said on Monday.
“I don’t think it’s something that people need to be alarmed about, but by the same token, they need to be cautious about it and report anything that needs to be reported to our health department,” Mr. Martinez said.
“On the coast, we kind of hoped that it wouldn’t happen,” he added, “but the likelihood was pretty high.”
Dr. Carmen Rocco, a Brownsville pediatrician, said she had been checking her patients for Zika, but none so far had been infected. Most of her patients are poor enough to be on Medicaid, and she praised state health officials for reinstating a Medicaid benefit for mosquito repellent.

“Families were taking advantage of that,” she said.
While cold weather is arriving in other parts of the country, southern Texas has had an unusually hot autumn, making it more hospitable to the Aedes aegypti mosquitoes that transmit Zika.
Even in normal years, Aedes aegypti can persist in the Brownsville area well into December, so new cases may be confirmed in January or later.
“I predicted last April that we would see cases along the Texas Gulf Coast this summer,” said Dr. Peter J. Hotez, the dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. “This is now the one case we know about, but we don’t know if there are dozens or hundreds.”
“Because of the lack of funds from Congress, there has been no active surveillance along the Gulf Coast,” he added. “Those cases in Florida were found by serendipity.”
Chris Van Deusen, a spokesman for the Department of State Health Services in Texas, said the new case was discovered because the woman fell ill and was tested for Zika infection by a local doctor, who alerted public health authorities. All such cases are investigated to see if a patient has a travel history or other risk factors that might explain the infection.
“Pregnant women should continue to protect themselves from mosquito bites there and elsewhere in Texas,” Mr. Van Deusen said.
Mosquito control measures will be stepped up, he said, but he did not know if they would involve aerial spraying of pesticides like Naled and larvicides like Bti.
In the Wynwood section of Miami, mosquito swarms did not decrease enough to stop disease transmission until both types of aerial spraying were used.
Thousands of Mexicans and Americans cross bridges over the Rio Grande each day in the Brownsville area; it is possible that the virus has been spreading in Matamoros, Mexico, just across the border.
In 2002, when there was a small outbreak of dengue in Brownsville, Dr. Hotez said, there turned out to be a much larger one in Matamoros. Both cities have poor neighborhoods where residents lack air-conditioning and window screens, he said, but many more Matamoros residents live in poverty.
“We won’t know how widespread the virus really was until babies with microcephaly begin being born, probably in the spring,” Dr. Hotez said, referring to the Zika virus and its link to the birth defect. “And I expect it to return next year.”
The C.D.C. regularly collaborates with Mexican health authorities, and Mexico “has quite a strong mosquito control program,” Dr. Frieden said.
Exactly how much Zika infection there may be in nearby parts of Mexico is unknown. “We know there is transmission in the border areas,” Dr. Frieden said. “But exactly where, we don’t know.”

In an exclusive interview with Digital Trends, the actress talks about moving from ABC’s family oriented sit-com Suburgatory to the blood and gore of horror thrillers, why Rose Mary’s Baby is awesome, and her role in the new Twin Peaks.
Don’t Breathe is a very intense film. What was it like shooting?
It was a hard movie to shoot because horror thrillers are very emotionally and physically exhausting. It was all very rehearsed and we had a very small space to work around and we had to know exactly what every move was going to be, how this direction would make it so that we couldn’t get out that window or that door. That’s what makes this movie so exciting to watch, and it’s like a chess game, too.
When I watched the movie I was like, “Oh my god.” Like every single piece of this house we’ve seen before and it makes sense that they’re actually trapped. So I guess crawling through an air vent you get authentic reactions. I think acting, if you are playing for real, it’s all real.
Director Fede Alvarez said that he thought that maybe five minutes into filming you realized you might have been rethinking your choice to do this movie.

Yes. I signed on very last minute. I think I was on a plane within a week of saying yes, and then a week after that we were on camera. And I had a very hard time shooting Evil Dead. You talk to any actor in any horror movie and they’re like, “Oh, yeah. That was hard.” When you spend most of your days crying or screaming or being chased it affects you psyche, at least for me and I think a lot of people. So after I did Evil Dead I said out loud and very clear to everybody, “I’m never going to do anything like this ever again.” But then the movie was good and I’m really proud of the work, and Fede is a great director. So when he asked me to do Don’t Breathe I hopped on the chance. And then I did have a few moments where I was like, “Uh-uh, I can’t do this.” But we made it through.
There’s a really intense scene between you and a dog in a car in this film. Can you explain how a stuffed animal made that scene work?
Yeah. There’s a picture somewhere that it was a stuffed animal shoved into my face. That’s an example of how people are often asking me if it was actually scary to shoot. Movies have to be so technical that they’re not scary. And sometimes when it looks like I’m working with a Rottweiler I’m actually working with a stuffed animal. But that scene to me is an example of the genius of (co-writer) Rodo (Sayagues) and Fede’s minds. I don’t know how they thought of that whole car situation, getting the dog to jump into the truck and pop in. Yeah, that’s a really cool scene. I love it.
These are both very different films, but how did this experience with Don’t Breathe compare to what you had to endure in Evil Dead, which obviously had a lot more blood and a really evil tree?
Yeah, that was much more physically demanding and emotionally demanding too, but I think that in a way that this was more of a psychological thriller and that was more horror. I feel like my experiences were totally reflective of that. In Don’t Breathe having someone tell you that they’re going to force you to have their child and lock you in their basement is really hard to wrap your brain around, but in Evil Dead it was more being covered in blood in the freezing cold, getting buried alive and running through hills. I guess I would say that Evil Dead was harder. It was also a longer shoot.
Having done this twice now with Fede, would you be open to a third outing?
Yeah. I would be open to it. I just read on the internet that they are making Don’t Breathe 2 and I have a sneaking suspicion that it’s going to be very different than the first. Maybe Rocky will be involved, maybe she won’t. But, yeah, if they ask me to put that costume back on I’d put it on and go to work.

There are a lot of fans out there that watched you on Suburgatory for many years. What was it like going from that family friendly show to becoming a scream queen of sorts with these types of films?
I am really just an actor going to work, as funny as it sounds. So it’s like job to job. You just show up day to day and do your scenes and go home and one tone is different. I don’t really think about the outsideness of all that, the career, how other people see me. I feel very fortunate to be a working actress and to work on things such as Suburgatory. That was a really fun group of people and a really great show, but I’m just going to work every day.
What horror movies stuck with you when you were growing up?
I really didn’t watch horror movies and if I did I really didn’t remember them that well. I was actually really easily frightened, as you can see with my huge whitened face in all these movies. But I really liked Halloween, It Follows — I loved that movie, The Exorcist … Rosemary’s Baby. I like horror movies that have real stories, real characters, in real stuff — not necessarily fantasy.
Rosemary’s Baby starts off like a straight-up independent movie and you have no idea that it’s about to go where it does. I mean you do just because it’s a very famous movie, but it’s about this couple moving in together and that happens for such a long time and then suddenly she’s raped by the devil and you’re so involved with the characters. I felt that way about It Follow too. You really believe in the premise and then supernatural stuff happens and I like those kinds of movies.
The other thing about horror, traditionally, is that those films often have really strong female protagonists. What are your thoughts about the role that genre plays out there for actresses today?
Yeah, I think about this a lot. I think that horror movies do often represent women who don’t run away from danger, they step forward and they fight and a lot of powerful actresses have come out of horror movies. I think about this a lot because I had trouble with the (spoiler alert) rape scene in Don’t Breathe because I felt like it was one of the cheap shots of sexually punishing women for their crimes. And it’s just something that we’ve seen before. After making this movie and struggling through that scene I do actually believe that there can be those types of scenes and it still represents strength and resilience in women.
Often times you see in these movies mothers like Ellen Burstyn in The Exorcist or Rocky is like a pseudo-mother to her sister, really fighting for someone else. That shows a lot of strength. Rocky is a complex woman. You could argue that she’s sort of like a post-feminist woman, she’s not the most stand-up-perfect woman because she steals, but she’s also not just a one-dimensional hot girl that loves having men around her giving her attention. She’s a fully rounded person. I think that there are amazingly strong multi-dimensional female figures in horror movies and there are interesting roles for them in the genre, and I’m proud to have represented two of those.
“Twin Peaks is my favorite, favorite thing I’ve ever done in my life.”
And speaking of interesting roles, what was it like for you to step into the world of Twin Peaks?
Twin Peaks is so cool. It’s my favorite, favorite thing I’ve ever done in my life. It’s like that world is very sacred and when I watch it I feel like I’m there. And the fact that I got to actually be there for one episode is really awesome. But that’s all I can say. I’m not allowed to talk about it.
What’s next for you?
I just started shooting a movie (Office Uprising) in Alabama, which is like an action comedy sort of like Office Space meets Shaun of the Dead. And I have a movie coming out on Netflix next year that I’m really excited about that Macon Blair directed called I Don’t Feel At Home in This World Anymore. I’m also in a kid’s movie coming out in January called Monster Truck.
That one looks interesting. What was it like working with the CGI and everything?
It’s hard because you are often not talking to a person, you’re talking to a green screen. But I saw it with a group of kids, actually, and they loved it. So if you have kids, or a niece or a nephew, that are into cars take them to see it in January. They’ll have a fun time.

Vietnam is the latest country to receive a British government warning about Zika virus. The Foreign Office says that “UK health authorities have classified Vietnam as having a risk of Zika virus transmission.”
Zika is a mosquito-borne virus that is harmless to the vast majority of people who contract it, many of whom display no symptoms. But it can cause complications for the children of pregnant women.
